The Yankees made a big push this year to recognize the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots (see next entry), so as part of our June magazine, I included this interview with former NBA player Jason Collins, who famously came out in 2013 while he was still active. I really enjoyed our talk, a look at the way the world had changed in the six years after he made his announcement on the cover of Sports Illustrated, and the optimism he feels for the future. I also liked the specific stories he told, including the way he decided to use all six of his fouls against a player who had made some insensitive comments.
